Set Of Six

Granada Television 13 June 1972

Slade Alive! was released in March 1972 amidst much critical acclaim. The Slade press machine moved into top gear and it seems as though everybody in the industry was pushed to comment. The April/May 1972 fan club newsletters were full of hyperbole...
"What an album! ...THIS IS ONE ALBUM NO SLADE FAN WILL WANT TO BE FOUND DEAD WITHOUT."
Strangely, it never mentioned the band were due to appear live on Granada Television on the 13th June.

Had Set Of 6 followed Magpie, the whole country would have seen it but The News killed any significant teenage viewers and Put It In Writing would have lost the rest. The few that saw it were probably tuning in early for 'Follow That Horse' and I doubt that they fit the target audience demographic?

A big thank you to Mark Richards (legendary Slade fan) who tracked down the original video master tape and paid a small fortune for it. He made it available, at his own expense, to many fans until the bootleggers got hold of it eventually allowed the Slade management team to have it, hence it's appearance on the 'Very Best Of Slade' DVD. Thanks to Gary Jordan for the minutae.
