Let's Call It Quits was one of Slade's minor hits as they faded into pop obscurity. It showed that the guys were absorbing what was happening around them in the US. In this case, they ended up settling out of court with Allen Toussaint’s publishers. Listening to Brickyard Blues (which many didn't unfortunately) it is clear that they were heavily influenced by the song.

Despite some lascivious lyrics, the song did respectably in the UK charts, supported by a striking video. A real raunchy track that still sounds good today. Slade certainly did Toussaint no harm, I’m sure I would not have paid his track any mind if not for Slade.

Record Mirror - January, 1976.

In early 1976, one angry female reader wrote a letter of complaint to the Record Mirror, unhappy with Noddy's cheeky risque lyrics on Let's Call It Quits (and previous singles)!

This was the second single to be released from the band's sixth Studio Album, "Nobody's Fools".  It reached Number 11 in the UK Singles Charts, remaining in the charts for seven weeks.

The B-side, When The Chips Are Down, was originally written as Six Days On The Road. The band clearly liked this tune, as it was recorded and used a year earlier (with different lyrics) as the theme song for a BBC Insight Special broadcast in August 1975 on BBC Radio 1. It was a two part special, Part 1 was called Six Days On The Road, It was an hour long documentary, with dialogue from the group themselves, to give a real insight into what life on the road was like for them as Britains most popular band.

Netherlands - Polydor - 1976.

Part 2 of the Insight Special was recorded live at London's New Victoria Theatreon on the 26th of April 1975 and has become one of the most popular Slade bootlegs.

Six Days On The Road
(Holder & Lea) 1975

We're gonna race up the motorway
And Rock n Roll the night away
In every town
You'd better lock up your daughters
Cos they'll do what they oughta
When we hit the town

If you want to feel the noize
From your head to your feet
Mama mama weer all crazee now
So get off your seats
The ceiling's gonna fall
When we start to shake the walls
And watch us bring them down

Six days on the road
Six days on the road
We're getting Fish n Chips for dinner
Every day we're getting thinner
On the road

Six days on the road
Six days on the road
Can you feel it getting to ya
Is the music going through ya
On the road

You've gotta really feel the noize
And all the girls can grab the boys
On the road

We're a Rock n Rollin' band
And we're the best band in the land
On the road

(Original version of "When The Chips Are Down", B-Side of "Let's Call It Quits")

Lets Call It Quits
(Holder/Lea)

You keep me straight, I'll keep you narrow,
You get the magic that can chill me to the marrow,
But I got something here for you
It's big enough for two

You want me, let's call it quits, let's call it quits
Before we break a one another into bits
Let's call a tie - let's call a tie
Before we make a one another start to cry

You want me sweet, I want you pretty,
You got some funny lines
That make you sound so witty,
But I got something here for you
It's big enough for two

You want me, let's call it quits, let's call it quits
Before we break a one another into bits
Let's call a tie - let's call a tie
Before we make a one another start to cry

You get the why, I got the wherefore,
You got me trapped hook line
nd sinker and so therefore,
I still got something here for you
It's big enough for two

You want me, let's call it quits, let's call it quits
Before we break a one another into bits
Let's call a tie - let's call a tie
Before we make a one another start to cry

When The Chips Are Down
(Holder/Lea)

Well I ain't one for runnin' when I see trouble comin' an' the chips are down
Well I ain't one for runnin' when the bad guys are comin an' the chips are down

I gotta snap two o' your fingers that are red from the squeeze
I got an icy cold stare that'll make you freeze
I ain't scared of nothin' an' I ain't one for bluffin' when the chips are down

When the Rat Packs are hidin' an' the lawmen are ridin' an' the ace is black
There's a peein' an' a-honkin' an' a-soon stop a-talkin' when the kid gets back

He got a colt 45 an' it can fill you with lead
An' you won't know what hit you right but that you will be dead
I ain't scared of nothin' an' I ain't one for bluffin' when the chips are down

When the chips are down, when the chips are down
There's a bootin' for the losers an' a skinful for the boozers of every town
When the chips are down, when the chips are down
There's a coyote a-howlin' an' the sheriffs get a-poundin' in every town

Yeah

I'm a-hell a-bent for leather
I can change it like the weather when the chips are down, down, down, down
Be a loner be a rider, a loser an' a hider when the chips are down

If you're ridin' into town an' there's a price on your head
Then you won't know what hit you right but that you will be dead
'Cos here you got some pills like, I got a baby that'll kill you when the chips are down

When the chips are down, when the chips are down
There's a bootin' for the losers an' a skinful for the boozers of every town
Oh, when the chips are down, when the chips are down
There's a coyote a-howlin' an' the sheriffs get a-poundin' in every town

I'm a-hell a-bent for leather, I can change it like the weather when I'm down
Well I ain't a-one for bluffin' an' I ain't a-scared of nothin' when I'm down
