Crackers: - (The Christmas Party Album)

UK, 18th November, 1985
Telstar LP - STAR 2271

The band's next album contained a mixture of the band's recent hits, some re-recorded (live) tracks, plus a selection of cover versions.  It reached Number 34 in the UK Album Charts.

Also, in 1985, Slade featured on the first of a multitude of Christmas compilation albums, released on EMI/Virgin.

After the success of Crackers, the fans were asking whether Telstar would be following it up with a "Crackers 2" in the fanzines, but instead Telstar reissued the selfsame LP, repackaged and retitled as "Greatest Hits"!
Telstar HRT-1

All hopes were dashed for a follow-up, when Telstar released The Gary Glitter Party Album, instead in 1987!

But, at least the lads got to be cover stars again on another Christmas Compilation:-

My thanks to Chris 'The Historian' Selby for his relentless research. It is said, in certain circles, that Walsall Archives have a seat reserved specifically for him and that Wolverhampton archives consult him when searching the Express & Star

Let's Have A Party
( Baxter / Friend / Haynes )

Some people like to rock, some people like to roll
But movin' and a-groovin' gonna satisfy my soul
Let's have a party (Let's have a party)
Let's have a party (Let's have a party)
I sent 'em to the store let's buy some more
Let's-a have a party tonight

I've never kissed a bear, I've never kissed a 'coon
I can shake a chicken in the middle of the room
Let's have a party (Let's have a party)
Ooh let's have a party (Let's have a party)
Well, I sent 'em to the store let's buy some more
Let's-a have a party tonight
Go for it

Now Honky-Tonky Joe is knockin' at the door
Bring him in an' fill him up an' send him on the floor
Let's have a party (Let's have a party)
Ooh let's have a party (Let's have a party)
Well, I sent 'em to the store let's buy some more
Let's-a have a party tonight

The meat is on the stove, the bread is gettin' hot
Everybody gonna take a part of mamma's shot
Let's have a party (Let's have a party)
Ooh yeah let's have a party (Let's have a party)
They gonna send 'em to the store let's buy some more
Let's-a have a party tonight
Let's-a have a party tonight
Let's-a have a party tonight

Do They Know It's Christmas / Feed The World
(Bob Geldof & Midge Ure)

It's Christmastime,
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime,
We let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
At Christmastime

But say a prayer,
Pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard,
But when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window,
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing
Is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them
Instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life (Oooh)
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Here's to you raise a glass for everyone
Here's to them underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again
