John Lennon was reported to have said that he liked this song, (as he had heard it being recorded), because he said that it ".....sounds like me....."!
But, then again, a lot of Noddy's vocals did sound somewhat "Lennon-esque"!

In For A Penny:  Raves & Faves
The song title also gave its name to a USA Compilation Album in 2007, released as a follow-up to Shout! Factory's 2004 Compilation Album,"Get Yer Boots On: 'The Best Of Slade' ", gathering together a collection of songs that don't usually get played very often on the radio!

In For A Penny
(Noddy Holder & Jim Lea)

Do you remember the night in September
The two of us laid in the hay
Do you remember the day in December
And how we got carried away

If you're in for a penny you gotta be in for a pound
Cos over and over you played me that old fashioned sound
Look around

Did you discover that ooh I'm a lover
But we took a tumble or two
Where you surprised when you tried me for size
You bit off more than you could chew

If you're in for a penny you gotta be in for a pound
Cos over and over you played me that old fashioned sound
So Look around
Play the refrain, play it and play it and play it again

Gee, they got a band

Do you remember the night I surrendered
You wanted to paint me in oils
Ooh you were tender, well do you remember
The sleepers could hear me for miles

If you're in for a penny you gotta be in for a pound
Cos over and over you played me that old fashioned sound
So Look around
Play the refrain, play it and play it and play it again
( Gee, they got a band! )

Can You Just Imagine
(Noddy Holder & Jim Lea)

Can you just imagine being buried alive
Until you've tried it how can you tell
Can you just imagine having breakfast at five
Until you've tried it how can you tell

Did you put on a clever disguise
Let the camera roll through your eyes
Then you tell it the way that it really is, A-we did …
… we did, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Can you just imagine being there on the screen
Until you've tried it how can you tell
Can you understand that someone had to come clean
It goes to show you never can tell

Well did you put on a clever disguise
And let the camera roll through your eyes
Did you tell it the way that it really is, A-we did …
Oh yeah, we did, did, did, did, did, did, did, yeah

Though you don't have to mention no names
There are some of us old just the same
Then you tell it the way that it really is, A-we did …
Oh yeah, we did, did, did, did, did, did, did, yeah

Did you realise it's not all rosy and gay
Until you've tried it how can you tell
Well if you're hard of hearing you better keep well away
Until you've tried it how can you tell

Well did you put on a clever disguise
Then let the camera roll through your eyes
Then you tell it the way that it really is, A-we did …
Oh yeah, we did, did, did, did, did, did, did, yeah

There's sweet magnolia blossom
Around everybody's door …
Do your friends keep feedin' faster
A keep a comin' back for more …
